Salters Lane: it’s a lane not a jitty!

Double yellow lines clearly showing ‘no parking’ at
the entrance to the lane

Some concerns have been raised by people whose homes and garages are in Salters Lane. They are worried that a serious accident may occur. People see it as a pedestrian jitty but residents are using it in their cars all the time along with the vans from one business.

It’s a nice route from Hall Orchard School to the park but when I went to see what was happening, I saw children running and with scooters who seemed to have no idea they could come face-to-face with a car. It was scary to watch.

Judith Spence, one of the residents, told me that there is also a problem with unthinking drivers blocking the lane. Not long ago, someone needed to get out to get to work but was blocked in for 20 minutes. There are double yellow lines on North Street in front of Salters Lane, so there should be no parking at all. “It’s got worse”, she said, “since the barrier went up for the library. It was badly needed, but people who used to park on the pavement, now park on the double yellow lines. It’s just a moment’s lack of thought.”

The residents are asking:

* please take a moment to think and look before running into the lane

* please just think before you block the lane with your car
