When admiring the crocus display at the parish church in Loughborough and in the botanical gardens in Leicester this year, it occurred to me that Barrow could do that too. We have the perfect spot on King George’s recreation ground as well as the very kind and hardworking members of Annette’s Richardson’s team to plant the bulbs. (Judith Rodgers tells me that properly they are corms. Every day’s a school day!)
Now, in principle I could donate the corms, but to fill the space available by the sensory garden would take a long time if I could only afford one or two bags a year. So, I thought: maybe I’m not the only one who would enjoy a display of purple crocus (other colours are available) in Barrow at the end of February. So, I’m appealing for donations. There will be a box in the library and in the florist. When you see the crocus in the supermarkets and feel moved to donate a bag of bulbs, you can take them there and Annette has kindly agreed to plant them. I’m going to speak to the play group and Lime Tree Nursery because the children use the park and will be around longer than me to enjoy the display.
Have a think, dig deep - actually you won’t have to dig, Annette will deal with that part…
