BARROW GREENER LIVING
WORKING TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY
What have we been up to?
We have continued with our brilliant (say so myself) Energy Saving Surveys. People who have received them say how good they are. If you are interested, please become a member of Barrow Greener Living (a snip at £5.00 a year) and ask for a survey … the best bargain in Barrow! For more information phone Bob on 07572 188616.
There was an excellent talk about ‘Incredible Edible Loughborough’ by Julian Rees at the Bishop Beveridge Club on the evening of 1st May. Julian discussed the issues of food production and supply as well as growing food within communities all of which was very stimulating. Julian Rees talking about Incredible Edible Loughborough
On the 5th June Rod Weston gave an introductory talk about composting and why it’s good for the environment. Stopping all those vegetable peelings going to landflll and making your bin smelly. It might even save you a bit of cash.
And on the 7th June BGL held a Clothes Swap event at the library. If you missed this one, it is hoped that this great idea will be repeated in the future.
However, you could still attend a talk by Associate Professor Mark Charlton, from De Montfort University, speaking about engaging communities with sustainability. This talk will have a focus on sports clubs so if you are anything to do with Barrow Town Football Club or Cricket Club or any other sporting groups in the village then this is the event for you. To be held on the 3rd July 7.30pm at the Bishop Beveridge Club. Free for BGL members and only £2.00 entrance for non-members.
We continue to produce our quarterly electronic Newsletter, which is full of great information.
We are considering starting a Repair Shop in Barrow but we need volunteers with repair skills willing to help run a session three or four times per year. Are you that person? If yes, please give us a buzz on the above number.
Last but not least we have started Barrow’s very own Climate & Nature Pledge. The idea is to get as many individuals, organisations (10 have already signed) and businesses to sign up to show concern about the changes to climate and biodiversity.
It’s free. It’s confidential. All you need to do is provide an email address.
Then you will receive our electronic Newsletter.
We want to show there is a silent majority of people in Barrow who are concerned about these issues.
This is something positive you can do. And we certainly do not want you to glue yourself to anything!
