On the morning of Friday 29 April, Barrow was like a ghost town. For about two hours just one man on a bike and a dog went past my house on North Street. It reminded me of the day of Diana's funeral when a similar eerie calm settled on the village. But this time it was all about joy and fun and a family wedding and right Royal occasion rolled into one. Our roving reporter, Gaynor Barton was out and about with the wedding parties in Barrow. Turn to pages 8 – 11 and you may find yourself there!

We celebrate 100 years of Barrow Methodist Church – take a close look at that 'old' photo – do you recognise anyone? There is a fascinating glance back at the history of village football. Even the team names in the 1900s league are wonderful : the Rising Stars, the Old Boys, the Trinity and their rivals – the Excelsiors, nicknamed the Vultures (you can only wonder why) and who could resist being in a team that played at Chocolate Hill.

The holiday season is well underway and don't forget to send in your traveller's tales, be they recommendations of stunning locations, strange customs and coincidences. Or if you are holidaying at home, the same applies – who serves the best beer in Barrow, river trips down the Soar, a picnic in Millennium Park; if you have something interesting to say, we'd love to hear from you.

And can you top these pictures of Barrow Voice abroad – on the ski slopes, in the wilds of Wales or on the streets of Paris? No prizes but take BV out to Leicestershire and beyond, include it in your photo and we will show the best in the next edition.
