New Landlords for the Soar Bridge Inn

Barrow is a village in a permanent state of change and most people think that change is not always for the best! When news that John and Dai would retire as landlords of the Soar Bridge Inn the village pipeline was buzzing; was another pub going to bite the dust? But fear not; the future is bright.

I met up with Rob and Amy McKay, and Isla, who will be the new “Mein hosts” at the Soar Bridge. Currently Rob and Amy are at the “Apple Tree” in Quorn, but in Rob’s words, “When Everards posted the vacancy at the Soar Bridge by email, I literally shot out of my chair and grabbed the phone.”

Why Barrow and why the Soar Bridge? Well, Rob mentioned that one of their favourite dog walks was to cross the slabs from Quorn and pass by the pub on the way into Barrow. They always stopped for a drink on the way back. This, for Rob, was a community friendly pub and that’s the way he wants it to continue.

There will be improvements along the way: exciting projects for Sunday diners and weekday food with the current Theme Nights, including the now famous Pie and Quiz Night, and Friday fish and chips all continuing. There will be a wide selection of brewery beers, with occasional guest beers, to tickle the customers’ palettes, and possibly the occasional Festival of Beer. Sports will still be available for football and rugby and the skittle alley will get smartened up. For summer the family seating and play area will get an upgrade. The changes will not take place all at once so will give both old and new customers time to settle in - back to ‘the old ways’. Rob explained at length that this was a long-term project for the Bridge. This will be one bridge in Barrow that will not require closing every year! Cheers and Good Health to you both.

Opening hours will be Tuesday - Sunday 12 -11pm and Mondays 4pm-11pm. There will be a new Facebook page soon; for busy periods remember it’s still advisable to book ahead. Tel 01509 412686
