Barrow and Charnwood Crafters
Are you a fabric fiddler, a paper player, card maker, scrap booker or just
craft daft? Are you intrigued by encaustic art, embroidery, rubber stamping
and would just like to have a go?
Fortnightly on a Tuesday evening from 7pm to 9pm, you can find crafters doing
those things and more in the community lounge at Humphrey
Perkins High School. We are a recently formed group of adult
crafters of all ages, both sexes and many interests, abilities
and excitements. We have show and tells, theme and technique
evenings, time just to work on your own projects and lots
of fun and chat as well as the odd cup of tea and a biscuit!
Between the founder members we have tutors and enthusiasts
for most of the paper and fabric / yarn crafts that you can
think of, all happy to share their knowledge and encourage
others to have a go.
There are many ideas for different things we can do, but
the biggest thing we need are new members, particularly from
Barrow, whether they are experienced crafters or complete
novices.
If you are interested, please telephone Laura Hegarty on
01509 415315 for details of the next meeting. You're welcome
to pop along just to see if you like the look of us!

experience of bringing up children and can spare between two and three hours per week.

in August, and is looking for enthusiastic and committed people like you to join us
and have some fun.

60th Anniversaries of VE and VJ DAY
Although the anniversaries of these momentous days in 1945 are in May and August, the official commemoration will be
on Sunday, July 10th.The Ministry of Defence has asked for church bells throughout the country to be rung at 5-00pm on
that day. Thus, when the bells of Holy Trinity are heard at that unusual time, we shall be joining in the commemoration.
The ringing of the bells on the original VE and VJ days is recorded by a carving on one of the Baptistry panels in Holy trinity Church.

Holiday at Home 2005, 8 -14 August
It is nearly holiday time again,
and following the success of last
year's first Holiday at Home, we
are all set to go again.
For those who are new to Barrow, or
maybe did not hear about it last year, we
offer a week of leisure activities for the
60s age group and far beyond! Most of
these take place at the Barrow Baptist
Church, apart from our day out, this year
to Holmfirth to explore the "Last of the
Summer Wine" country. Do not be put
off by feeling frail, we offer transport to
and from church and full support is given
both at church and on the excursion.
The Saturday event is aimed at whole
family enjoyment and will appeal to all
age groups. We aim to keep all events at
minimal cost, and hope that you will
come and join us. Included in the
programme this year is a display of
Bygone Barrow photos and slide
presentation, a Hobbies' Day, Lunch Club
and Songs of Praise.
Look out for posters nearer the time or
feel free to telephone me for more
detailed information. I look forward to
seeing you at some or all of the events.
And another date for your diary -
8 July - Strawberry Tea with Terry Lock
on the keyboard.
