Barrow Playgroup shines in OFSTED inspection
Barrow Playgroup was
delighted to receive high
praise from their recent
OFSTED inspection. They were
visited unannounced by an
inspector at the beginning of
December and were graded ‘good’
with some ‘outstanding’ qualities
(OFSTED’s highest grade).
Ofsted were very impressed with the way staff work closely with parents: ‘Staff work extremely well with parents to ensure that they know and value children as individuals, so building children’s selfesteem and helping them to be confident in their relationships and play. Parents greatly value the playgroup’s welcoming approach.
There are excellent arrangements for parents and staff to share their on-going observations of children’s changing interests and abilities, and of how to work in partnership to promote the next steps in children’s learning.’
Playgroup was also awarded an outstanding grade for encouraging their children to follow a healthy lifestyle by providing lots of opportunity for exercise, healthy eating and teaching of good hygiene, and for keeping their children safe with excellent safety and child protection procedures.
The report reflected the hard work and dedication of staff and committee over the last 3 years and the enthusiasm and enjoyment shown by the children and families who attend. ‘Children show a strong sense of security and confidence as they quickly settle to their play, and develop strong relationships with adults and peers. They learn to cooperate and negotiate well with each other because staff are consistent and positive in explaining expectations for children’s behaviour.

Barrow Playgroup is open from 9.15am to 12.15pm every weekday during school term time for children age 2 to 5 and is held in the Methodist Church Rooms on North Street in the village.
The Playgroup has recently appointed a new Registrar. Cathy Walker is available on Monday and Wednesday mornings during term time to talk to you about your child starting at Playgroup, fees and funding. At other times, please leave a message on 07975 957 242 or email barrowplaygroup@hotmail.co.uk
