A whole host of thanks
‘Tis the season to be merry. . . and also the traditional time to say thank you – to the Barrow Voice team and indeed all our
contributors over the past year, to our colleagues at Mulberry Square who produce the magazine, to our advertisers and our
loyal band of distributors. I should give a special mention here to Brian Carruthers who delivered Barrow Voice to a huge round
for years and is now having a well-deserved rest in his new home in Quorn. Also, a thank you to all those who responded with
their concerns over a further large-scale housing development in Barrow. See the news page to read their views.
It’s appropriate to give a ‘whole village’ thank you to Tina Long who we featured earlier this year and who has been the chair
of the Bishop Beveridge Club and a great supporter of Barrow’s older folks for many years. The committee had a farewell dinner
for Tina at the Hunting Lodge and at the recent AGM she was warmly and publicly thanked for the many years of service that
she, together with Chris her husband when he was alive, gave to the club. Tina has now passed the reins to Sylvia Steane, who
many of us know from Sylvia’s the Florist, before she retired. Our best wishes go to Sylvia in her new role.
From our club for the over 60s to opportunities for the young people of Barrow – the Parish Council and BUSCA have both
contributed £2000 to extend the youth work in the village. The money goes towards street-based youth work aimed at
engaging young people in the 13-19 age group. It will enable this to run on Thursdays throughout 2010.
So, a Happy Christmas to you all and we will be back in the New Year.
