Barrow’s Got Talent
On a scorching Saturday in June, Barrow Youth Theatre hosted Barrow’s Got Talent. This very successful popular new venture in the village boasted 23 acts plus a few well chosen tunes from our talented Youth Theatre.
A packed-out Humphrey Perkins crowd of over 200 people turned out to watch the stars and starlets battle it out. Simon Cowell and friends were not able to make it but it was the encouraging and enthusiastic audience that made their vote count by voting for their favourite.
Ilea Cavner, a 10-year-old singer was easily the runaway winner singing the UK Eurovision Song contest entry ‘It’s My Time’. In second place was our dancing duo Georgia Beck with Lauren Coulsell and solo dance act Megan Alderson a close third.
The event was organised by Carol and Gordon Kenneth as a charity fund-raiser to say a big thank-you for all the financial help and support that the Barrow Youth Theatre has enjoyed since its debut performance in March 2004. Our local businesses helped to boost the charity raffle on the evening, which helped the total proceeds to exceed well over £1000 for Rainbows Children’s Hospice.
The response from the community showed that this was a success and the question was often asked: when is the Youth Theatre doing it again? Plans are in place for the event next year. So, if you missed out this year in performing or just coming along to join in the fun, watch this space next year.
